As a white woman, I can only say the whites ...WOW! As a white woman, I can only say the whites are screwing the Indians AGAIN! The money set aside to buy small interests only amounts to $35 per acre! I'm ashamed of and angry with our Federal Government for sticking it to the Native Americans again with plans to continue to do so in the future in the proposed purchasing of interests.

It's not the Indians' fault that the BIA couldn't keep tract of the owners as the ownership became more fractionalized. Besides, it was the job of the BIA to do so. At least now it's on paper that the BIA has been inept at doing its job! Perhaps that's some small consolation to the Native Americans. But that doesn't put food on their tables anymore now than it did all those years it owed them money.

An Indian friend of mine who will be a beneficiary of this settlement has been advised by his brother that some African- Americans are getting $$ from this settlement, too. That has something to do with land the African-Americans owned but was confiscated from them. This article says nothing about that, though, so I'll have to continue researching to determine whether or not it is true or just a rumor. If it's true, then the Native Americans are getting another shaft with this settlement. What a shame!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11279250.post-6540845017117323492011-02-12T09:54:54.001-06:002011-02-12T09:54:54.001-06:00Who is eligible? Who is eligible to ...This is very confusing to me. Who is eligible to receive funds from this. Did you have to be on the original law suit or can you still file? Is it only to indians that still own land or to the decendents of indians that were alloted land but no longer have it becuase there was never a will?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
