It's a PR st...Shit like this makes me so angry. It's a PR stunt, nothing more. <br /><br />Why is it that women are never targeted with remedial training or 101-level programs like this? <br /><br />The ad industry gives women (meaning mostly white women) high level professional programs aimed at hiring and retention, because it's assumed that they're already skilled and qualified and are only suffering from glass ceiling issues.<br /><br />Minorities, on the other hand (meaning mostly college students, and/or inner city students) get basic 101 training because it's assumed that they are too unskilled and ignorant of advertising to participate. Retention and promotion of the few POC already in the system is entirely overlooked, even though that should be priority step #1. Except you don't get flashy PR fodder like Grey's stunt when you do that. <br /><br />And we all know that you can train these students of color until they have a portfolio the size of a small car and the agencies still won't hire them because of "cultural fit". So these initiatives make for great press for the agencies sponsoring them, but still don't change one damn thing when Becky and Brad continue favoring and hiring Becky and Brad. <br /><br />Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
