Wal-Mart’s new campaign rips off Tide’s old campaign.

  1. And yet my first reaction is surprise that the forces of PC let either ad through.

    I mean can't you just hear the conversations "They're sleeping. Isn't that saying that Tide supports the notion that black men are lazy and will choose to sleep rather than to interact with their sons."

    "Right. We can show them playing lacrosse or rugby or some other non-urban sport. That will show how progressive we are."

    And so on.

Actually, Black audiences—particularly women—respond very favorably to depictions of Black males as loving and committed fathers (versus the negative portrayals and single-mother households pushed by the media). In some ways, the loving and committed father is among the semi-clichéd images in the category.
