This Coca-Cola Olympics commercial featuring flyweight boxer Marlen Esparza needs some translating. Why does Esparza call out her Latina heritage? The other athletes starring in campaign spots didn’t mention their race or ethnicity. Also, Coke is so heavy-handed with the brand’s red imagery. Do boxers really paint their fingernails for bouts? And would a professional trainer serve Coca-Cola versus, say, Gatorade?
