Creative Week New York will happen May 6-10, 2013. The gala celebration launched a website detailing scheduled events. From a non-White standpoint, the week features a few items worth noting:
• Baratunde Thurston—author of How to be Black—will participate on the Author, Author panel with three other published writers.
• Jimmy Smith will appear with distinguished Chief Creative Officers at The Creative Suite, as well as join prominent professionals sharing early advertising industry experiences at My First Time.
• Ahmad Islam of commonground will discuss “how fans, artists and brands are utilizing a new digital platform to create a deeper, more engaging relationship online and offline” during Activating Fans and Brands in New Ways.
• Color Commentary: Being Creative & Black In Advertising is an event co-sponsored by The One Club and ADCOLOR® that will spotlight a panel of One Club | ADCOLOR® Creative Award winners from the past three years—starring Donna Lamar, Danny Robinson, Jd Michaels and Jimmy Smith. Guess ADCOLOR® Award Winner Dan Wieden didn’t qualify for the group.
• 100 Years of Oreo Moments takes place on Wednesday, May 9, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. Okay, this event has no racial components, despite anything Bob Garfield might believe. And don’t expect to see MultiCultClassics’ cookie concepts at the soiree.
