Mad Men creator
Matthew Weiner received an honorary CLIO Award for his series depicting the advertising industry’s racist exclusivity. Diversity-distressed
Dan Wieden picked up a Lifetime Achievement Award. You’d think the CLIO Committee would have tried to balance things out with a special trophy for
Putney Swope.
I think wieden and kennedy is a pretty succesful agency for the last 20 years, but one can only imagine how much more succesful they would have been if they hired more minorities on the creative side who knew the niche market they were targeting which is selling nike shoes. Such a shame, and such a missed opportunity. One can only imagine the possibilities!
ReplyDeleteFor one thing his accomplishments have been great, but as far as diversity within his agency, he sucks like 99% of the rest of the agencies out there. I heard his passionate speech, bla bla bla, but his plan of action to increase diversity by looking for "potential future hires by starting a lame cop out summer camp is a joke" and he knows that. In his speech he made to the 4a's he went on and on how most agencies suck when it comes to diversity, which includes himself. One has to wonder why expose the diversity sin, if ur sinning yourself. It makes no sense. He also said he conscience was bothering him but his agency refuses to join the 4a's. Very hypocritical. One has to wonder for such as brilliant talent like dan wieden why has he failed to fill the current diversity void at his own agency. Theres ton talent out there, but like he says, "I pay middle class white kids to market shoes and culture to black kids, who these very same kids in the suburbs try to emulate." --For all his accomplishments its summarized with his own admittance that sad that will be his legacy.--what a shame.
