During an interview with Campaign, Sir John Hegarty admitted he gets “really, really pissed off” when he sees creative people walking around wearing headphones. “If you walk around cutting yourself off, you are eliminating influence,” complained Hegarty. “You are eliminating the possibility you are going to pick up stories, ideas, thoughts that are happening all around you. As a creative person, that’s all wrong.” Yeah, it’s like feigning interest for inclusion, yet maintaining exclusivity with predominately White staffers—eliminating the possibility you are going to pick up stories, ideas, thoughts that are happening all around you. Despite anything he might say, Hegarty is deaf to diversity. He isn’t just cutting himself off. The asshole doesn’t even bother to show up. As a human being, that’s all wrong.
