State Farm and Allstate have received praise for their latest ad campaigns. Advertising Age placed the State Farm
rejiggered jingle among the
Best Ad Songs of 2010. And a number of
idiots have called the Allstate
Mayhem commercials brilliant.
Not seeing it.
These campaigns are clumsy, heavy-handed interpretations of tired strategies. What’s more, the work appears to be desperate corporate reactions to the comedic, creative success of competitors like Aflac and GEICO. Why else would advertisers with a history of producing serious and sappy messages suddenly embrace broad humor?
Sorry, but State Farm and Allstate come off like nerds trying to tell dirty jokes.
