The White advertising agency behind this TurnSignl concept claimed that the initiative is “part of a commitment to providing pro bono campaign work to organizations that combat racial inequality…” Okay, but the shop is Periscope—which is hardly a defender of equality. Is the commitment truly authentic or part of a legal settlement? Or is it just performative PR for Periscope?
The typos in the print ads bring a scammy feel to it all. There’s something not quite right about “I Have the Right.”
That said, TurnSignl is clearly an enterprise with professionalism, honor, and integrity—deserving much better than anything Periscope has to offer.
As part of a commitment to providing pro bono campaign work to organizations that combat racial inequality, Periscope has partnered with TurnSignl, a Minneapolis-based organization helping protect people’s rights on the road by providing subscribers with 24/7/365 access to live legal guidance in the event of a traffic stop by the police.
Also part of Periscope’s commitment to impact communities in inventive ways, the partnership with TurnSignl began based on shared values and a determination to make a real difference for people in the agency’s own backyard. The app development for TurnSignl began in October 2020, and the partnership with Periscope was forged the same year. The founders began the development partly in response to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis and reports examining racial disparities in traffic stops. The app launched in Minnesota and Georgia in 2021, and is currently expanded to nearly all 50 states with nationwide availability right around the corner.
TurnSignl’s newest campaign, “I Have the Right,” created in partnership with Periscope, aims to help people reclaim the confidence that everyone should be able to feel behind the wheel, because no one should have to skip going out with friends, attending events and enjoying other enriching aspects of their lives due to fear about getting home safe. The video spot lets users know that TurnSignl can help ensure and protect their rights, allowing them to feel more secure while driving with on-demand legal advice available at their fingertips.
The campaign launched across social media in August 2023, and will appear in TurnSignl’s owned channels and marketing materials as they launch nationally and continue pursuing partnerships with educational institutions and businesses to make the app available to more audiences.
