8338: Smoking Guns, Exclusive Studies.
Studying the news with a MultiCultClassics Monologue…
• A new study shows smoking could vanish by the middle of the 21st century. The research was based on declining smoking figures in Britain, despite steady rates in America. Hey, Big Tobacco will probably just shift their marketing efforts toward Africa—and dramatically crank up menthol cigarette production.
• A new study of admissions at highly selective colleges shows legacy applicants—students with family members connected to the institution—have significant advantages in the acceptance process. In short, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. However, places like Harvard and Yale don’t come close to matching Madison Avenue when it comes to exclusivity and nepotism.
