Digiday published a piece titled, “Can Agencies Solve The Talent Problem?” A bunch of alleged leaders addressed the question, “How can the ad industry attract and retain the talent it needs to succeed in the future?” Yawn. The individuals regurgitated the standard range of responses, yet no one seemed to realize a fundamental problem with the exercise. That is, the group appeared to be completely White and predominately male. Is it any wonder why there are few fresh answers—and zero new solutions? The “talent problem” starts with the existing talent.
