Reviewing the new-and-improved mcgarrybowen diversity statement inspired MultiCultClassics to take another peek at the other agencies without such statements. Sure enough, GSD&M has made revisions to its website. There is a section devoted to Vendor Diversity—featuring the agency’s Vendor Partner Diversity Manager. Oddly enough, while GSD&M boasts a commitment to connecting with diverse vendors, there appears to be no public dedication to embracing diversity among its staff.

Last year, MultiCultClassics spotlighted mcgarrybowen among a handful of prominent advertising agencies without diversity statements on their websites. Well, an anonymous tipster noted the site has been updated, and the shop now declares, “Our colleagues are diverse…”—alongside a staff photograph that kinda disputes the claim.

Dentsu doesn’t get a lot of attention in the U.S., perhaps because of its non-White roots. Regardless, the corporate website displays a basic policy on human rights and posters too. Job inquiries, however, can only be submitted in Japanese.

Omnicom has dedicated a section of its website to diversity—replete with a list of goals, videos and assorted politically-correct propaganda. Perhaps someday the holding company will have an inclusive workforce to validate the online rhetoric.

MDC Partners boasts a tagline that reads, “Where Great Talent Lives.” Regarding diversity, check out the search results alongside portraits of the holding company’s executive management.

Deutsch is another prominent agency with no visible commitment to diversity—although the place offers the standard support for minority youth outreach programs. The agency website proclaims one noteworthy belief: “Integrated People, Not Integrated Departments.” However, it’s a reference to integrated disciplines versus integrated cultures. For Deutsch, integration is not related to inclusion.

(No word if Donny Deutsch’s new TV show will feature interracial romance.)

Publicis’ annoying website intro boasts, “We Are Multicultural.” Yet its Contagious People and Executive Committee appear to be predominately White. Although there is one Brazilian executive with a serious Afro.

A collection of diversity-free websites from top agencies.

OK, at least Mullen minimally mentioned diversity.

Havas devotes a section of its website to CSR, including the following liberal-minded laundry list:

The Havas group’s six commitments to progress:

1. To reduce the environmental footprint of our operations

2. To reduce the environmental impact of our communication campaigns

3. To promote diversity and expand health insurance and employee benefits internationally

4. To apply more exacting social and human rights criteria to ensure more responsible purchasing of products and services

5. To promote transparency and ethics in our industry

6. To promote a model of communications more conducive to sustainable development

At Havas, diversity has been lumped in with human resources chores including health insurance and employee benefits. Brilliant.

According to the copy in the lower left of the agency’s website page, Merkley + Partners embraces diversity. According to the initial figures from the New York City Commission on Human Rights, Merkley + Partners is full of shit.

Gotham displays a diversity statement, diversity ads and diversity partners. The place even uses the name Gothamsity—which stands for Gotham + Diversity—for its internal initiative to build inclusiveness.

WPP plays it short and sweet with diversity on its website. The holding company proclaims, “We introduced a non-discrimination policy in 1992.” Um, that’s about 40 years after the U.S. Civil Rights Era. Nice.

Avrett Free Ginsberg is one of the advertising agencies that originally signed a pact with the New York City Commission on Human Rights, pledging to hire more minorities. The agency’s seriousness on the matter is demonstrated by statements posted on its website—where the morons misspelled diversity.

Kaplan Thaler Group claims to have no “cookie-cutter characters” on staff—the place thrives on diversity. Wonder if KTG is willing to prove it by opening the cookie jar and revealing the current contents.

PHD uses the word “diversity” without really embracing the concept.

PHD is hugely confident about the future. Why? Because we employ a diversity of brilliantly clever, curious, passionate people and put them in a fun, stimulating environment where they can thrive. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you whether you are just starting out in a media career; are ready to make your first big career move; are a mid-career professional looking for a more challenging, enjoyable environment; or are a senior experienced professional looking for the next stage of growth and reward. By the way, some of our biggest fans are PHD Alum, who have returned to us after having tested “the grass is greener” theory elsewhere.

When you advertise to the world, you must employ the worldly.

Considering all of the different people we communicate with in this global arena, it only makes sense that our people be equally diverse. We are in the business of perspectives and we need as many as we can get.

If you have a unique point of view — we want to meet you.

As one of the top ten marketing communications firms worldwide and the leading global network in one to one marketing, we employ over 15,000 people in 450 offices around the world. The strength of our reputation lies in the collective skills and talents of these individuals and our tradition of providing training and career development for our talent — began with our founder and continues today over 60 years later.

Our employees are encouraged to bring their ideas, experiences and perspectives, gleaned from their varied backgrounds, to the workplace. We strive to create an environment in which all employees can contribute to their fullest potential without regard to their race, gender, religion, ethnic or cultural background, generation, disability, age, appearance or sexual orientation.
