8996: Apple Picking And Perp Walking.

Law and Disorder in a MultiCultClassics Monologue…

• Chicago law enforcement officials are reporting a significant increase of “Apple picking”—where bus and train commuters are being robbed of their iPhones and smart devices. Hey, if it all leads to fewer morons holding loud and annoying phone conversations on public transportation, what’s the problem?

• A NYC Councilman has proposed legislation to ban the “perp walk”—the public display of criminal suspects being paraded by law enforcement officials. The politician believes such acts ultimately hurt defendants by making the presumed innocent “look guilty and bias the potential jury pool.” Introducing the legislation can only mean one thing: the NYC Councilman knows he’s about to get busted for something.
