9019: Aged & Abused.

The Sunday Evening Non-News in a MultiCultClassics Monologue…

• After two seasons, TNT has canceled Ray Romano’s award-winning series Men of a Certain Age. Clearly, everybody doesn’t love Raymond. On abstract levels, the show and its demise reflect Madison Avenue, as ageism alarmists insist admen of a certain age (i.e., over 40) are typically dumped. However, co-star Andre Braugher’s Emmy nomination makes things very unlike Madison Avenue, as Blacks are rarely recognized for their achievements in the ad industry.

• Nike acknowledges that Indonesian workers making Converse sneakers (Nike owns the Converse brand) are being abused, but there is little the company can do about it. For Indonesian workers, “Just do it” means “Just deal with it.”
