The 1976 Mickey D’s advertisement (depicted above) spotlighted in a previous post warrants a revisit after spotting the parody (depicted below) that was left in the comments at Copyranter on Buzzfeed. The funny guy responsible is completely wrong in his presumption that a White advertising executive created the original message. The work was almost certainly hatched at a Black agency, probably Burrell. If anything, the heavy-handed copy shows what Black advertising executives were forced to do in order to appease the culturally clueless perceptions of Black people held by White advertiser executives. Sad thing is, the clients’ demands have not changed much in over 30 years. And neither have most Black agencies.
