There’s a semi-new Popeyes Chicken commercial with Annie the Chicken Queen boasting her fowl food beat KFC in a nationwide taste test—and the spokeswoman actually starts dancing. That’s right, a sassy Black woman dances over fried chicken. Can’t find the spot online yet. In fact, it’s tough to find any commercials featuring Annie. Nearly all the Web sources that posted about the character now show blank players with a line reading, “Video no longer available due to a copyright claim…” It looks like GSD&M, the agency whose staff refuses to take responsibility for the campaign, is trying to control the conversations—and the critics. At one point, someone noted that the actress playing Annie does not speak or behave anything like the Chicken Queen in real life, but MultiCultClassics is having trouble locating that source too.
