Stoute deserves praise for landing accounts and assignments typically denied to advertising professionals of color; however, his shop has yet to consistently produce breakthrough creative. The Business Insider story claimed, “Perhaps nobody embodies the integration of hip-hop culture into the mainstream [better] than Steve Stoute, whose book ‘The Tanning of America’ covers that very subject.” Okay, that explains the dubious honor. Even trade websites love hip hop.
