Observing Labor Day 2025 in Adland is tricky.
Celebrating the social and economic achievements of American workers can be challenging when US employment figures steadily decline for the industry.
The failures of White holding companies trickle down to White advertising agencies, sparking redundancies and radical reductions in force. Technological advances—especially AI—further ignite mass firings.
So, here’s to the hapless drones whose livelihoods have been decimated by corporate blundering—as well as the underrepresented who’ve been historically denied access to a discriminating and devolving dumpster fire.
And don’t forget the pitiful younger generations who face fewer opportunities to toil in the field at all.
Adland honchos abroad are being impacted by a shitty job market too. Although they get golden parachutes, in stark contrast to the worker bees who get golden showers.
Enjoy the day off. Even if it extends indefinitely—sans pay or benefits.
