16272: COVID-19 & Crumbs.

An image used to promote COVID-19 vaccinations for Latinx audiences has been recycled to hype flu shots. Ad Council, AMA, and CDC seem to be saying, “We have time for our loved ones. But not much of a budget—so enjoy these crumbs.”

Ad Council plays one game, and it's to steer the best and biggest budget projects that win awards and further careers to white ad agencies, white media buyers, and white vendors.

Latinx projects are given a few pennies and the budgets are so small that they invariably require the agencies to shoot overseas in Latin America with Latin American partners. That's why if you look closely at the credits for any Ad Council "Hispanic" campaign for the United States, it's invariably created by a team in Argentina or Mexico etc. that have never lived through or faced the US issues Ad Council is addressing themselves.

Black initiatives get a couple of nickels for underfunded and underdeveloped Ad Council campaigns that are built around stock photos. If it IS a Black issue being focused on, you might have one Black photographer or graphic artist etc. in the credits, but the entire ecosystem surrounding them and profiting is white in every other nook and cranny.
