Working through Labor Day with a MultiCultClassics Monologue…

• Plans are underway to build a fast-food restaurant on Rikers Island. The goal is to offer prison workers and visitors alternative dining options, as 7,500 workers and hundreds of visitors pass the proposed restaurant site daily. Wonder if menu items from Mickey D’s might be categorized as cruel and unusual punishment.

• The Ku Klux Klan held a Saturday rally in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on the Civil War battlefield that Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address. Counterdemonstrators were in attendance, including Confederate re-enactors taking offense to the Klan’s use of the Confederate battle flag. “These guys don’t stand for anything I stand for,” said a flag fan. “And it’s time we disengage our flag from what they stand for.” Right, let’s properly segregate our biased beliefs.
