Essay 4822

Wonders of the world news in a MultiCultClassics Monologue…

• Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison for his involvement with dogfighting. Wonder if he’ll get a Paris Hilton/Lindsay Lohan/Nicole Richie deal. OK, the wondering is over—he won’t.

• CompUSA will probably close more stores after being sold to a restructuring and investment firm. Wonder if they’ll change the name to CompExtremelyLimitedLocation.

• Isiah Thomas and Madison Square Garden reached a settlement with former Knicks executive Anucha Brown Sanders. The woman will collect $11.5 million, $100,000 less than the amount awarded by a jury. For that kind of money, she should suit up and join the starting lineup. Wonder if Knicks fans would notice the difference.

• Lawyers made closing arguments yesterday in the case involving the millionaire Long Island couple charged with holding two Indonesian housekeepers as slaves. The Assistant U.S. Attorney declared, “This did not happen in the 1800s; this happened in the 21st century in Muttontown.” Which wonderfully improves the chances of turning it all into a reality TV series.
