Essay 471

Homey Schooling with a MultiCultClassics Monologue…

• Now Al Sharpton is riding to the rescue of a controversial rhyming rascal (pictured above). A 7-year-old in the Westchester town of Peekskill sparked controversy for her Black History Month poem titled, “White Nationalism Put U In Bondage” — which compared Christopher Columbus and Charles Darwin to pirates and vampires. School officials called the child’s work offensive. “Whether one agrees or disagrees with what she said, there was an entire overreaction and I intend to look into it,” Sharpton said. “This could have an indelible impact on this young lady’s growth and creativity.” As if having Sharpton defend her isn’t traumatic enough.

• Master P pleaded guilty to possessing pistols — picking up prison time (previously served), paying papes, plus public penance. Try saying that three times PDQ.

• P. Diddy is launching a reality TV show — Celebrity Cooking Showdown. Master chefs will school celebrities in the kitchen. And the celebrities will probably teach the master chefs how to handle firearms.

• Responding to the risk of lawsuits and political pressures, colleges and universities across the country are allowing White students to benefit from scholarships and financial programs traditionally created for minorities. An official with the NAACP remarked, “How is it that they conclude that the great evil in this country is discrimination against White people? Can I put that question any more pointedly? I struggle to find the words to do it because it’s so stunning.” Look for the UNCF to change its meaning to “United Neutral College Fund.”
