7844: Mad Men Mention.

Forgot to mention another commercial that ran during the second episode of AMC series Mad Men. A Dove spot featuring admen wannabes Phil Smith and Tad Winter of SmithWinterMitchell infested the airwaves like BP crude in the Gulf of Mexico—the awfulness seemed to spew without any sign of ending. This putrid pap stunk on a number of levels. The copy appeared to be the handiwork of an entry-level account person. The art direction was a poor man’s Mad Men. And for Dove to abandon its Real Beauty bullshit with a stereotypical glamorous model was nothing short of pathetic. A truly embarrassing effort all around.

No, no, you got it all wrong. It’s a unique integration of brand placement which supports the show’s storyline.
