7860: Mad Men Mention.
Wanted to briefly discuss another moment from the third episode of AMC series Mad Men. As MultiCultClassics has noted in the past, creator Matthew Weiner seems comfortable exploring and exposing certain biases—specifically, anti-Semitism, sexism and homophobia—while pussyfooting around things such as racism. The latest installment showed this again, when Don Draper and Lane Pryce visited a nightclub. A stand-up comic proceeded to taunt the admen, accusing them of being gay lovers. Not sure what inspired such a bizarre outburst, especially given Draper’s clearly heterosexual tendencies. But it’s unlikely Weiner would ever consider staging a similar scenario in a Michael Richards style.
