8785: McCann Hires Press Pal.

No one with a brain would ever confuse Goodby, Silverstein & Partners with McCann, but the two agencies now share a commonality: both have hired former Adweek writers for original-yet-ridiculous roles. Barbara Lippert was named Curator of Pop Culture at GS&P last February, while McCann just mimicked the creative powerhouse by tapping Eleftheria Parpis as its first Chief Brand Editor. McCann Creative Chief Linus Karlsson gushed Parpis will generate journalism-based content that displays the “creativity, innovation, and market leadership of the agency and inspires dialogue and fosters community throughout the agency’s creative network.” Can’t help but wonder if Parpis wrote that line of PR bullshit. It’s not a surprise that the ex-trade scribes generated positive press for their new bosses over the years, likely nurturing the relationships that ultimately led to job offers. In the end, Lippert and Parpis represent another addition to the list of characters that effortlessly land Madison Avenue positions ahead of minorities.
