• NBC reversed its decision to reject an advertisement from conservative group Freedom’s Watch (see Essay 4809), and the spot may begin running immediately. So the public will now have a new commercial to ignore.
• Student morons from Pennsylvania State University sparked outrage with the online posting of photos featuring Halloween party costumes inspired by victims of the Virginia Tech shooting massacre. One of the idiots sought to explain his actions. “We do it just for shock value. But it’s not meant to be funny,” said the student. “It’s not meant to really make a statement about anything, other than, ‘Look how amazingly shocking we can be and not cry about it, not be upset about it.’” More like, “Look how amazingly stupid Penn State students really are.”

Better still was the idiot responsible for one of the photos who justified it by saying that one of the VT students dressed up like Steve Irwin, and that this was no worse.
